Compound Sentence কাকে বলে?

যে বাক্যে দুটি Independent (স্বাধীন) Clause বা principle Clause থাকবে, ও clause দুটি coordinating conjunction দিয়ে যুক্ত থাকবে, তাকেই Compound Sentence বলে।

Coordinating Conjunctions হল For, And, Nor, But, Or, Yet, So ইত্যাদি।

Compound Sentence এর উদাহারণ ও ব্যাখ্যা

Compound Sentence এর একটি উদাহারণ হল "She wanted to go to the park, but it started raining."

উপরের sentence টিতে দুটি clause আছে, clause দুটি independent বা Principle clause. এবং clause গুলো coordinating clause (but) দিয়ে যুক্ত হয়েছে। তাই উপরের sentence টি একটি Compound Sentence.

Compound Sentence চেমার উপায়সমূহ

• দুই বা ততোধিক independent/Principle Clause থাকবে। অর্থাৎ কোন clause অন্য কোন Clause এর উপর depend বা নির্ভর করবে না।
• Clause গুলো Coordinating Conjunction (and, or, so, but) দ্বারা যুক্ত থাকবে।

Compound Sentence এর প্রকারভেদ উদাহারণ সহ

Compound Sentence সাধারণত তিন প্রকার এর হয়ে থাকে। তা হল

• Double Compound Sentence
• Multiple Compound Sentence
• Contracted Compound Sentence

Double Compound Sentence

দুটি স্বাধীন বা independent Clause দিয়ে যে Compound Sentence গঠিত হয়, সেগুলোই Double Compound sentence.

উদাহারণ - I wanted to visit Europe, but my husband wanted to explore Asia. বাক্যটিতে দুটি classes ( "I wanted to visit Europe", "my husband wanted to explore Asia." ) আছে। তাই এটি Double compound sentence.

Multiple Compound Sentence

যে বাক্যে বা sentence এ দুটির চেয়ে বেশি clauses দিয়ে Compound Sentence গঠিত হয়, তাকেই Multiple Compound Sentence বলে।

Multiple Compound sentence এর উদাহারণ : He studied hard for the exam, and he reviewed his notes thoroughly, but he still didn't perform well.

উপরের Sentence টিতে ৩টি clause রয়েছে। যেহেতু দুটির চেয়েও বেশি independent clause রয়েছে, তাই এটি multiple compound sentence বলা হয়।

Contracted Compound Sentence

Compound Sentence কে সংক্ষিপ্ত ভাবে প্রকাশ করলে সেই Compounds Sentence কে Contracted Compound Sentence বলে।

উদাহরণ সরূপ : They attended the concert, and they enjoyed the music. এটি একটি Compound Sentence. এই sentence টিকে এই ভাবে না লিখে, সংক্ষেপে লিখা যায়, যেমন - They attended the concert, and enjoyed the music. এটি হল Contracted Compound Sentence.

Contracted Compound Sentence এর উদাহারণঃ They attended the concert and enjoyed the music.

Contracted Compound Sentence এর গঠনের নিয়ম সমূহ

• এটি compound sentence এর সংক্ষিপ্ত রূপ।
• Contract compound sentence গঠন করার জন্য compound sentence এর সবগুলো clause এর subject একই হতে হবে।
• যেমন - He wrote the report, and He reviewed the data. এই বাক্যের দুটি clause এই subject He আছে। তাই এটিকে Contracted Compound Sentence (Shorten Form) করা যাবে। যেমন - He wrote the report, and reviewed the data.
