ইংরেজি ভাষায় কিংবা ব্যাকরণের একটি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ পূর্ণ parts of speech হল "adjective"। আজকে আমরা adjectives কাকে বলে কত প্রকার ও কী কী তা জানব।
Adjective কাকে বলে?
কোন noun বা pronoun এর দোষ গুন, অবস্থা, পরিমাণ বোঝায় তাকেই adjective বলে।
আরো সহজ ভাবে বললে, যে শব্দটি কোন noun বা pronoun কে modify করে, অর্থাৎ ঐ noun বা pronoun এর সম্পর্কে আরো বিস্তারিত বর্ণনা করে। তাকেই "adjective" বলে।
Adjectives এর উদাহারণ
Adjective কাকে বলে তার উদাহারণ বা কোন শব্দ কিভাবে noun বা pronoun কে modify করে তা উদাহারণের মাধ্যমে নিচে দেওয়া হল
- Example1 : John is a tall boy. বাক্যটিতে boy (বালক) একটি noun ও tall (লম্বা) শব্দটি ঐ boy কে modify বা noun টি সম্পর্কে আরো তথ্য প্রদান করেছে, তাই tall শব্দটি adjective.
- The red rose is the most beautiful flower in the garden. বাক্যটিতে rose ও flower দুটি noun আর এই দুটি noun এর আরো তথ্য প্রদান করেছে "red" adjective টি rose কে ও "beautiful" adjective টি flower কে modify কিংবা বিস্তারিত তথ্য প্রদান করেছে।
Adjective কত প্রকার ও কী কী
Adjective কে সাধারণত ৭ (সাত) ভাগে ভাগ করা হয়৷ সেগুলো হল।
- Descriptive Adjective (গুণবাচক বিশেষন)
- Adjective of Number (সংখ্যাবাচক বিশেষণ)
- Adjective of Quantity (পরিমাণবাচক বিশেষণ)
- Demonstrative Adjective (নির্দেশক বিশেষণ)
- Possessive Adjectives (সম্পত্তিবাচক বিশেষণ)
- Interrogative Adjective (প্রশ্নবাচক বিশেষণ)
- Distributive Adjective (বিভক্তিবাচক বিশেষণ)
Descriptive Adjective (গুণবাচক বিশেষণ)
যে সব adjective কোন noun বা pronoun এর
দোষ, গুণ ও অবস্থা বোঝায় থাকেই Descriptive Adjective (গুণবাচক বিশেষণ)
বলে।
যেমন : big, small, tall, hot, happy, sad, angry, surprised, scared, confused, excited, bored,
ইত্যাদি হল descriptive adjective.
Descriptive Adjective এর উদাহারণ হল
- The lazy Student didn't study for the exam.
- The beautiful sunset painted the sky.
- The hot summer day made me sweat.
- A brown-eyed girl smiled at me.
Adjective of Number কাকে বলে
কোন সংখ্যাবাচক শব্দ বা adjective যদি noun বা pronoun এর সংখ্যা বোঝায় থাকেই Number Adjective বলে।
যেমন : One, two, three, first, Second, third, many
Adjective of Number এর উদাহারণ
- There are two books.
- He Achieved second class in BBA
- I have many friends.
Adjective of Quantity
কোন সংখ্যাবাচক শব্দ বা adjective যদি noun বা pronoun এর পরিমাণ বা কিছু অংশকে বোঝায় তাকেই Quantity Adjective বলে।
যেমন : much, little, few, enough, little, a lot of
Demonstratives Adjective কাকে বলে
যে সকল শব্দ বা adjective গুলো noun বা pronoun এর অবস্থান বা সম্পর্ক বোঝানোর জন্য ব্যবহার করা হয়, তাকেই demonstrative adjective বলে।
যেমন : this, that, those, these etc.
Demonstratives Adjective এর উদহারণ
- That is the school where i study.
- This is my favorite movie.
- Those are my friends.
Possessive Adjectives কাকে বলে?
যেসব adjective গুলো noun বা pronoun এর মালিকনা বা স্বত্বাধিকার বোঝায় তখন তাকে possessive adjective বলে।
উদাহারণ সরূপ : My pen.
এখানে my হল একটি possessive adjectives.
কারণ এই my দিয়ে noun (pen) এর মালিক কে বোঝানো
হয়েছে। তাই my হল possessive adjective.
এরকম আরো কিছু possessive adjective হল his, her, our, your ect.
Possessive Adjective এর উদাহারণ
- Our team finished the group work.
- This is my house.
- what is your name?
Interrogative Adjectives কাকে বলে?
যেসব adjective দ্বারা কোন প্রশ্নের উত্তর দিতে হয় তাকেই interrogative adjective বলে। যেমন : which, who. where, when. what ইত্যাদি।
Interrogative Adjective এর উদাহারণ:
- Where are you from.
- How many people are coming to the party.
- What is your parents name.
Distributive Adjectives
যে সকল Adjective কোন Noun বা Pronoun এর প্রত্যেকটি অংশকে আলাদাভাবে নির্দেশ করে তাদেরকে Distributive adjective বলে। যেমনঃ each, every, either, neither etc.
Distributed Adjectives এর উদাহারণ
- Every mother loves her Child.
- Either choice is fine.
- Each Each students received a certificate.
